Nomenclatural History
The species Alteromonas nigrifaciens was originally described by White 1940. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived and validly published by Baumann et al.. Ivanovna et al. published an emended description of this species in 1996. In 1995, Gauthier et al. established as the basonym of (Baumann et al. 1984) Gauthier et al. 1995 emend. Ivanovna et al. 1996 .
