Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 26 in 1988. Euzéby corrected this name from (sic) to . The species Colwellia psychrerythraea was originally described by D'Aoust and Kushner 1972. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1988 the name was revived by Deming et al..

Deming et al. described this name as a new combination. The original name, Vibrio psychroerythrus, was not on the Approved Lists. Colwellia psychroerythrus (sic) cannot be a new combination because the basonym is not validly published. It must therefore be a revived name.
