Nomenclatural History	The species Shewanella putrefaciens was originally described by MacDonell and Colwell 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. List Editor formed this name in 1986 by placing the species Alteromonas putrefaciens (ex Derby and Hammer 1931) Lee et al. 1981 into the genus Shewanella MacDonell and Colwell 1986.
