Nomenclatural History
The species Shewanella colwelliana was originally described by Coyne et al. 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 34 in 1990. Coyne et al. formed this name in 1989 by placing the species Weiner et al. 1988 into the genus MacDonell and Colwell 1986. Satomi et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Ivanova et al. 2004 in 2007.
