Nomenclatural History

The species Shewanella hanedai was originally described by MacDonell and Colwell 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. Cao et al. published an emended description of this species in 2021. MacDonell and Colwell formed this name in 1985 by placing the species
Alteromonas hanedai Jensen et al. 1981
into the genus Shewanella MacDonell and Colwell 1986.
