Nomenclatural History

The species Vibrio alginolyticus was originally described by Sakazaki 1968. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Vibrio alginolyticus as a later homotypic synonym of
Beneckea alginolytica (Miyamoto et al. 1961) Baumann et al. 1971 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
