The species Vibrio damsela was originally described by Love et al. 1981. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 8 in 1982. In 1985, MacDonell and Colwell established Vibrio damsela as the basonym of
Listonella damsela (sic) (Love et al. 1982) MacDonell and Colwell 1986
