The species Vibrio marinus was originally described by Baumann et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. In 1998, Urakawa et al. established Vibrio marinus as the basonym of
Moritella marina (Baumann et al. 1984) Urakawa et al. 1999
.
