The species Vibrio trachuri was originally described by Iwamoto et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. Thompson et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Johnson and Shunk 1936) Baumann et al. 1981 in 2002.
