The species Vibrio vulnificus was originally described and validly published by Farmer 1980. Farmer formed this name in 1980 by placing the species Reichelt et al. 1979 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Pacini 1854 emend. Shewan and Veron 1974 (Approved Lists 1980).
