The species Listonella damsela was originally described by MacDonell and Colwell 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. corrected this name from (sic) to . MacDonell and Colwell formed this name in 1985 by placing the species Love et al. 1982 into the genus MacDonell and Colwell 1986. In 1991, Smith et al. established as the basonym of corrig. (Love et al. 1982) Smith et al. 1991 .
