The subspecies Aeromonas hydrophila anaerogenes was originally described by Schubert 1964. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Miñana-Galbis et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Aeromonas caviae (ex Eddy 1962) Popoff 1984 pro synon. Aeromonas punctata (Zimmermann 1890) Snieszko 1957 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2013.
