Nomenclatural History
|
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. The species Aeromonas caviae was originally described by Eddy 1962. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived by Popoff. Eddy elevated the subspecies
Aeromonas punctata caviae (Scherago 1936) Schubert 1964 (Approved Lists 1980)
to the rank of species to form this name in 1962. Holmes established Aeromonas caviae as a later homotypic synonym of
Aeromonas punctata (Zimmermann 1890) Snieszko 1957 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1992. Miñana-Galbis et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Aeromonas hydrophila anaerogenes Schubert 1964 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2013.
