Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 23 in 1987. The genus Ruminobacter was originally proposed by Sijpesteijn 1949. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1986 the name was revived by Stackebrandt and Hippe.
