The species Ruminobacter amylophilus was originally described by Stackebrandt and Hippe 1986. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 23 in 1987. Stackebrandt and Hippe formed this name in 1986 by placing the species
Bacteroides amylophilus Hamlin and Hungate 1956 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Ruminobacter (ex Sijpesteijn 1949) Stackebrandt and Hippe 1987.
