The species Brenneria salicis was originally described by Hauben et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 68 in 1999. Hauben et al. formed this name in 1998 by placing the species
Erwinia salicis (Day 1924) Chester 1939 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Brenneria Hauben et al. 1999 emend. Brady et al. 2014.
