Nomenclatural History	The species Haloferax mediterranei was originally described by Torreblanca et al. 1986. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 23 in 1987. Torreblanca et al. formed this name in 1986 by placing the species Halobacterium mediterranei Rodriguez-Valera et al. 1983 into the genus Haloferax Torreblanca et al. 1986 emend. Oren et al. 2009.
