Nomenclatural History
The species Enterobacter agglomerans was originally described by Ewing and Fife 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 90 in 2014. Beijerinck formed this name in 1888 by placing the species Beijerinck 1888 into the genus Hormaeche and Edwards 1960 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Brady et al. 2013. Collins and Jones established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Abdou 1969 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1982. Beji et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Kawakami and Yoshida 1920) Magrou 1937 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1988. Beji et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Löhnis 1911) Dye 1964 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1988. In 1989, Gavini et al. established as the basonym of (Beijerinck 1888) Gavini et al. 1989 .

In Judicial Opinion 90, The Judicial Commission affirms that, according to information presented to it, the combination Enterobacter agglomerans is to be cited as Enterobacter agglomerans (Beijerinck 1888) Ewing and Fife 1972 and the combination Pantoea agglomerans is to be cited as Pantoea agglomerans (Beijerinck 1888) Gavini et al. 1989.
