Nomenclatural History

The species Enterobacter cancerogenus was originally described and validly published by Dickey and Zumoff 1988. Dickey and Zumoff formed this name in 1988 by placing the species
Erwinia cancerogena Urosevic 1966 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Enterobacter Hormaeche and Edwards 1960 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Brady et al. 2013. Schønheyder et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Enterobacter taylorae Farmer et al. 1985
in 1994.
