The subspecies Erwinia carotovora odorifera was originally described and validly published by Gallois et al. 1992. In 1998, Hauben et al. established Erwinia carotovora odorifera as the basonym of
Pectobacterium carotovorum odoriferum (Gallois et al. 1992) Hauben et al. 1999 emend. Gardan et al. 2003
.
