The species Erwinia cypripedii was originally described by Bergey et al. 1923. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Hauben et al. established Erwinia cypripedii as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Pectobacterium cypripedii (Hori 1911) Brenner et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Hauben et al. 1998 pro synon. Erwinia cypripedii (Hori 1911) Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1998.
