The species Pectobacterium carnegieana was originally described by Brenner et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Alcorn and Orum established Pectobacterium carnegieana as a later homotypic synonym of
Erwinia carnegieana Standring 1942 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1988.
