The species Halorubrum vacuolatum was originally described and validly published by Kamekura et al. 1997. Kamekura et al. formed this name in 1997 by placing the species Mwatha and Grant 1993 into the genus McGenity and Grant 1996 emend. Oren et al. 2009.
