The subspecies Yersinia pseudotuberculosis pseudotuberculosis was originally described by Smith and Thal 1965. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 7 in 1981. In 1981, List Editor reduced (Pfeiffer 1889) Smith and Thal 1965 (Approved Lists 1980) to the rank of subspecies.
