The species Haemophilus aphrophilus was originally described by Khairat 1940. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2006, Nørskov-Lauritsen and Kilian established as the basonym of (Khairat 1940) Nørskov-Lauritsen and Kilian 2006 . Nørskov-Lauritsen and Kilian established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Zinnemann et al. 1968 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2006.
