The species Haemophilus paraphrophilus was originally described by Zinnemann et al. 1968. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nørskov-Lauritsen and Kilian established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Khairat 1940 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2006.
