The species Natronobacterium magadii was originally described by Tindall et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 15 in 1984. In 1997, Kamekura et al. established as the basonym of (Tindall et al. 1984) Kamekura et al. 1997 .
