The species Desulfovibrio senezii was originally described by Tsu et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 69 in 1999. In 2019, Galushko and Kuever established Desulfovibrio senezii as the basonym of
Desulfobaculum senezii (Tsu et al. 1999) Galushko and Kuever 2021
