The species Desulfovibrio vietnamensis was originally described by Dang et al. 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 86 in 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. In 2020, Waite et al. established as the basonym of (Dang et al. 2002) Waite et al. 2020 .
