The species Desulfobacterium autotrophicum was originally described by Brysch et al. 1987. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 26 in 1988. In 2020, Galushko and Kuever established as the basonym of (Brysch et al. 1988) Galushko and Kuever 2021 .
