The species Desulfobacterium vacuolatum was originally described by Kuever et al. 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 107 in 2006. In 2020, Galushko and Kuever established as the basonym of (Kuever et al. 2006) Galushko and Kuever 2021 .
