The species Desulfobacula phenolica was originally described and validly published by Kuever et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Kuever et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species
Desulfobacterium phenolicum Bak and Widdel 1988
into the genus Desulfobacula Rabus et al. 2000 emend. Kuever et al. 2001.
