Nomenclatural History
|
The genus Trichlorobacter was originally proposed by De Wever et al. 2000. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 78 in 2001. Waite et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2020. Nevin et al. transferred the members of this genus into
Geobacter Lovley et al. 1995 emend. Waite et al. 2020
in 2007.
Although the genus Trichlorobacter was earlier merged with the genus Geobacter by Nevin et al. 2007, its position and rank as separate genera has been further justified in this manuscript. Microbiologists adhering to this opinion, should thus treat Trichlorobacter as non-synomous with Geobacter.
