The species Desulforhabdus amnigena was originally described by Oude Elferink et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 63 in 1997. Euzeby and Boemare corrected this name from Desulforhabdus amnigenus (sic) to Desulforhabdus amnigena .
