The species Thermodesulforhabdus norvegica was originally described by Beeder et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. Euzeby and Boemare corrected this name from Thermodesulforhabdus norvegicus (sic) to Thermodesulforhabdus norvegica .
