Nomenclatural History
|
The order Bdellovibrionales was originally proposed by Garrity et al. 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 107 in 2006. Hahn et al. published an emended description of this order in 2017. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Waite et al. in 2020.
This name was illegitimate until the emendation by Hahn et al. 2017 because it contravened rule 51b (1) due to its inclusion of the genus Bacterivorax Baer et al. 2000 which is the type of the family Bacteriovoracaceae Davidov and Jurkevitch 2004. Hahn et al. corrected the circumscription and this name now adheres to the rules of the Code.
