Nomenclatural History
The family Bdellovibrionaceae was originally proposed by Garrity et al. 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 107 in 2006. Waite et al. published an emended description of this family in 2020.

This name was considered to be illegitimate until the order Bdellovibrionales Garrity et al. 2006 was emended by Hahn et al. 2017 to exclude the genus Bacterivorax Baer et al. 2000 (the type genus of its family). This name now adheres to the rules of the Code.
