Nomenclatural History
The genus Myxococcus was originally proposed by Thaxter 1892. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Zahler and McCurdy published an emended description of this genus in 1974. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Lang and Stackebrandt in 2009.
