Nomenclatural History
The species Corallococcus macrosporus was originally described by Reichenbach 2005. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 115 in 2007. Reichenbach formed this name in 2005 by placing the species (Krzemieniewska and Krzemieniewski 1926) Zahler and McCurdy 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Reichenbach 2007 emend. Lang and Stackebrandt 2009.

According to H. Reichenbach, the type strain of Corallococcus macrosporus is strain Cc m8 (=DSM 14697=CIP 109128), not strain Windsor M271 [the type strain of Myxococcus macrosporus (Krzemieniewska and Krzemieniewski 1926) Zahler and McCurdy 1974 (Approved Lists 1980)]. Consequently, Corallococcus macrosporus could not be a new combination as cited in the effective publication. A later proposal set Cc m8 as a neotype (effective 2011), and a request for opinion is pending to correct this issue.
