Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 115 in 2007. The genus Sorangium was originally proposed by Jahn 1924. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2005 the name was revived by Reichenbach.
