The species Campylobacter hyoilei was originally described and validly published by Alderton et al. 1995. Vandamme et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Campylobacter coli (Doyle 1948) Véron and Chatelain 1973 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1997.
