Nomenclatural History
The species Thermococcus barophilus was originally described and validly published by Marteinsson et al. 1999.

Tindall 2019 asserts that although the original nomenclatural type deposit was a patent strain, an additional deposit has been made, which satisfies Rule 30 of the ICNP. Therefore, this name continues to have standing in nomenclature.
