The species Campylobacter mustelae was originally described and validly published by Fox et al. 1989. In 1989, Goodwin et al. established as the basonym of (Fox et al. 1988) Goodwin et al. 1989 . Fox et al. elevated the subspecies Fox et al. 1988 to the rank of species to form this name in 1989.
