Nomenclatural History

The species Helicobacter pylori was originally described and validly published by Goodwin et al. 1989. Goodwin et al. formed this name in 1989 by placing the species
Campylobacter pylori corrig. (Fox et al. 1988) Marshall et al. 1985 emend. Fox et al. 1989
into the genus Helicobacter Goodwin et al. 1989 emend. Vandamme et al. 1991. Suerbaum et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Helicobacter nemestrinae Bronsdon et al. 1991
in 2002.
