The species Clostridium absonum was originally described by Nakamura et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Wang et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of corrig. Prévot 1938 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Wang et al. 2005 in 2005.
