The species Clostridium aminovalericum was originally described by Hardman and Stadtman 1960. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium aminovalericum as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium aminovalericum (Hardman and Stadtman 1960) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2016, Ueki et al. established Clostridium aminovalericum as the basonym of
Anaerocolumna aminovalerica (Hardman and Stadtman 1960) Ueki et al. 2016
