The species Clostridium bolteae was originally described by Song et al. 2003. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 92 in 2003. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium bolteae as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium bolteae (Song et al. 2003) Yutin and Galperin 2013
. In 2020, Haas and Blanchard established Clostridium bolteae as the basonym of
Enterocloster bolteae (Song et al. 2003) Haas and Blanchard 2020
