The species Clostridium fimetarium was originally described by Kotsyurbenko et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 60 in 1997. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established Clostridium fimetarium as the basonym of
Lachnoclostridium fimetarium (Kotsyurbenko et al. 1997) Yutin and Galperin 2013
