The species Clostridium hathewayi was originally described by Steer et al. 2001. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 85 in 2002. In 2013, Yutin and Galperin established as the basonym of (Steer et al. 2002) Yutin and Galperin 2013 . In 2014, Kaur et al. established as the basonym of (Steer et al. 2002) Kaur et al. 2014 .
