The species Clostridium hungatei was originally described and validly published by Monserrate et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. In 2018, Zhang et al. established Clostridium hungatei as the basonym of
Ruminiclostridium hungatei (Monserrate et al. 2001) Zhang et al. 2018
.
